    First Published Essay

Hey all, One of the places I’ve done my best writing over the years has been on my Boarding School Essays. I do plan on sharing many more over time, but, I figured this was a good place to start. This essay is in response to the following prompt, “Suppose you have found a time machine and traveled 40 years into the future and have an interview with yourself. What is your life like?” There is a lot of symbolism and allegory in this essay. There are a few sublte messages throughout. It sends a strong message through simple hyperbole. I do hope you enjoy reading it as much as I…

    What do you really see?

Before we begin, I’m going to take you back to High School Chemistry for a moment. You may remember learning about Nuclear Decay and Half-Life. Essentially, a half-life is the amount of time needed for half of the atoms in a given sample of a given substance to decay. It’s the Science behind Carbon-Dating and many other common practices in most fields of Science nowadays. If you understand the math better, an equation for half-life would like something like f(x)=P.5^x; where ‘x’ is the number of half-life cycles that have passed. So, let’s suppose we start with 10 pieces of candy. After one half-life, we would have 5, after another, 2.5…

    Where have I been?

We’re pushing two months since my last post. The explanation for where I’ve been is really quite simple: Living. I’ve been busy. As many of you know, the Boarding School application process is just wrapping up, and its current midterms week. What I will say, is this. 2019 is going to be a big year for me and for this site. No matter where I go, I am going to make it a priority to post here as often as possible. So, I hope the new year is treating you all well as it has for me, and I look forward to posting a lot more in the near future.

    When happiness becomes a distraction

Happiness—a construct we all crave. Something that we can never get enough of, and always seems to be lackluster in our lives. However, what happens when you finally achieve this desired state of nirvana? I don’t mean with materialistic things. I mean true temporary happiness. I only say temporary because as we know, all emotion is just that, temporary. Before I delve in, a quick disclaimer: I am aware that I am weird when it comes to my dealing with emotions. I understand that many of you may not share these same beliefs or problems. Just try to figure if maybe, underneath all of your outer shells, you may share…

    Welcome to Tinder!

Welcome to Tinder! (not the dating platform) Is it bad I feel the need to keep reiterating that? Probably. But, I feel as if this new and vibrant section of my site needs its own introduction. I want to start this off with my favorite quote from history: “I came to America because I heard the streets were paved with gold. When I got here, found out three things: First, the streets weren’t paved with gold; second, they weren’t paved at all: and third, I was expected to pave them.” (https://thejosevilson.com/paved-with-gold/) I love this quote in every which way. I think it perfectly highlights America, where we came from, the…
